Enjoy the painted hills of Rainbow Mountain (5,035m/ 16,520ft.), also known as Vinicunca, on an amazing full-day hike tour from Cusco. See the spectacular landscapes of the popular mountain Ausangate, considered sacred by locals. Since pre-Inca times the mountain has been a place of worship and offerings, and this tradition continues today.

During this trip we will have the opportunity to appreciate the 7 varieties of South American camelids (llama, alpaca, guanaco, vicuña, taruka, etc.) and on a good day we can observe the largest birds in the world in their habitat such as the Condor and see with luck the Andean feline, the Puma.

CUSCO – CHILLCA – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – CHILLCA – CUSCO (B/L)

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4.00 AM for a three and a half hour drive, in our private van, to the town of Chillca. During the trip we will pass through traditional villages and see some amazing views of the Andes. When we reach the trail head for this hike, we will stop and enjoy a delicious breakfast, prepared by our trekking chef. After breakfast, we will begin the hike from Chillca, located at 3,700 m/12,139 ft. From here, we will hike for four hours, uphill to the astonishing Rainbow Mountain.

Along the way, you will see picturesque villages, glacial peaks, red mountains, rocky hills, and traditional llamas and alpacas grazing along the valley.

Upon arrival at the top of the Rainbow Mountain, you will have a magnificent view of the glacier Ausangate (6,385 m / 20,945 feet), the tallest mountain of the Cusco region and part of the Vilcanota Mountain Range. While taking in this magnificent view, your tour guide will bring you hot drinks and share some information about the mineral composition of the soil that makes the mountain so special.

After taking amazing pictures and soaking in the views, we will begin a two and a half hour downhill hike. We will then enjoy a delicious and freshly prepared lunch. After lunch, we will start our return trip back to the Chillca village, to take our private van back to Cusco. Transfer to your hotel in Cusco at about 7 – 8 PM.
